TAMNAMS extension: Difference between revisions

This is a systematic extension for the [[TAMNAMS]] MOS scale naming system based on parent / grandparent relationships. It's intended for a user interface so that every MOS pattern has a memorable name. There's also a more [[User:Frostburn/TAMNAMS_Extension|euphonic version]] at least for [[User:Frostburn]]'s taste.

== Woods ==

Trivial multi-MOS scales of n periods are named '''n-wood''' or spelled out resulting in: hexawood, septawood, octawood, nonawood and decawood.

 

Rest of the MOS scales up to 10 notes are treated similarly to diatonic using the shorthand ''chro'' for ''chromatic''. If the parent scale of a basic MOS scale is hard the name is ''p-chro (parent's name)'' e.g. ''p-chro machinoid'' for [[5L 6s]] (''s-chro machinoid'' is an alternative). On the other hand if the parent scale of a basic MOS is soft the name is ''m-chro (parent's name)'' e.g. ''m-chro machinoid'' for [[6L 5s]] (''f-chro machinoid'' is an alternative).

 

Granddaughters are analogues of m-enharmonic, f-enharmonic, p-enharmonic and s-enharmonic. The system's shorthand for ''enharmonic'' is ''enhar''.

This system retains the old prefix '''klei-''' for [[4L 7s]] (from the [[kleismic family]] of temperaments).

 

Trollic is a name given to [[12L 1s]] by [[User:Godtone|Godtone]], but in order to troll even further the name is given to [[13L 1s]] instead.

 

== Liesic ==

The scheme would run out of names at 17-notes so liesic is a name given to [[2L 15s]] based on [[liese]] temperament to patch one more hole.

 

Giedraitic is a name given to [[19L 3s]] in honor of the basic magic layout of [[Kite Giedraitis]]' [[Kite guitar|guitar]]. The prefix/stem ''kai'' comes from Kite's first name /kaɪt/ with the last /t/ removed. The anti-giedratic MOS is given the name zheligowskic in reference to [[Wikipedia:Lucjan_Żeligowski|Lucjan Żeligowski]] leading fights against the town of [[Wikipedia:Giedraičiai|Giedraičiai]].
