Here are tempered scales constructed according to a systematic plan.

Hobbit scales

For some set of target pitch classes, such as a tonality diamond, and some fixed error tolerance, these scales are least squares optimized.

The scales below are both strictly proper (coherent), and possessed of a considerable amount of harmony. See also strictly proper 7-tone 31edo scales.
