hi xenwiki people. how do i make my userpage images smaller? And how do you make diagrams for stuff in the first place? I notice most of them aren't just screenshots of google sheets, lol.
what's this page supposed to be for anyway?
- Welcome to the Xen Wiki, Squib! I frankly don't know very well how to adjust image size; however, I do know that in the case of my diagrams at least, a lot (such as the tuning spectra for Didacus, Kleismic, and Gravity) genuinely are screenshots of Excel charts; the remainder are simply handmade in paint.net.
- In general user talk pages are used for other users to discuss with you, primarily about your contributions to the wiki (in a positive or a negative way, lol); it's recommended that more communication goes through talk pages than on Discord, since not every wiki user is on Discord. Btw, you can sign your messages like this: ~~~~. Lériendil (talk) 16:00, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't use the visual editor much, so I'll answer for the source editor. A good way to learn wikitext is to look at existing pages and see what wikitext syntax matches what results. For example, you can place images as thumbnails, as is done at the top of the Guitar page, or you could make a gallery of images, as on the User:Nick Vuci/TonalityDiamond page. If you just want to change the size, you can look at an example on this page: Equal-step_tuning#Lookalike_equal_divisions. Otherwise, when you insert an image using buttons in the menu of either editor, there should be parameters you can change to adjust the image size to your liking.
- If people write on your user talk page, you should get a notification in the top bar of the Xenharmonic Wiki, so people can quickly talk to you if they need to ask a question, or anything else they could want to tell you. --Fredg999 (talk) 20:53, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
If you use
[[File:Octaves-tritaves layout.png|300px|thumb|none|Your caption goes here.]]
it will render as:

The arguments are probably self-explanatory. (Except 'none' which sets the alignment.) Check out the media wiki help: mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Images.
I make my diagrams (such as File:Lattice_5lim.png) in Inkscape, it's free!
