Patent val error vs direct approximation error
I think it's a good idea to have patent val error in these tables. Direct approximation error is also pretty good to have, so I added both. (There is also the "best val", btw) Mike Battaglia (talk) 17:40, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- I think the patent val error should be primary. In an inconsistent chord, you can't have all three intervals the closest interval, while the patent val provides an unambiguous solution. Patent val is important for stuff like commas or 35edo's interpretation of 3. Search "Selected just intervals by error" in this wiki for more edo articles with such a table (all of which I edited to patent val error) and see https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/247892491/ for the project I used to generate the table, which always gives the patent val error. - By the way, 29edo and 41edo are consistent in 15-odd-limit, so the two table types are the same. PiotrGrochowski (talk) 18:13, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
31EDO Piano
I'd like to add a link to 31EDO Piano app, but I doubt where it should be placed, here or at Software section. Hs (talk) 15:14, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Music section vs 31-edo compositions page
What's the supposed difference between them? From what I see, most pieces listed in 31-edo compositions are art music from the last century? That inspires me. Since the music section is getting inconveniently large, maybe it's good to have pages separated by time (like by decades or by centuries)? FloraC (talk) 05:27, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know what the differences are. Your idea of having separated pages by time is good but how do you want to call them? 31edo compositions from the 20th century and 31edo compositions from the 21st century? I see your point that the music section is getting large and I worry that it will get even larger because many microtonal composers seem to explore 31edo at one time or another. Also most compositions on 31-edo compositions don't have a link to their respective audio, and I guess that they should be added too. And the list is, how should I say this, somebody should work on it. If the music section gets a separate page, then it would be great if the page looks like the music section of other pages. I am also thinking about the case if music sections of other pages get large enough that they should have a separate page. I would like to work on it but I wouldn't do it if nobody wants to have an own page for the music section. I am also waiting for somebody else's permission because it's difficult if I write a new list in my style and somebody else writes another list in their style and it's difficult to change the system of a list afterwards. --Francium (talk) 15:10, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Splitting the music section into a separate page when it's getting too long seems fine, but then if we want to classify by time period to keep roughly similar works together, it might be better to go with sections in that separate page instead of a bunch of little pages. --Fredg999 (talk) 16:13, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's my concern about the splitting the music section into time (centuries or even decades) too. That could be a huge mess. My approach would be: making a separate page with 31edo music, documenting the list from the music section and the 31-edo compositions there, and putting it in the style of the list of the edo's music section. Making the page 31-edo compositions obsolete and not having the struggle that the music section is getting too large. It could also be the go-to option for the future if the music sections of other pages get too large. --Francium (talk) 17:55, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
