Scala file pages

These pages are tuning files of Scala, by which I mean tuning files shipped with Scala, the tuning manipulation software. The titles are filenames. I have no idea how you got to this very small selection to move, since

  • By moving werc2 you've left out werc1, werc3, werc4, werc5, and werc6.
  • By moving keen5 you've left out keen1, keen2, keen3, keen4, and keen6.
  • By moving prop7h you've left out prop7a, prop7b, prop7c, prop7d, prop7e, prop7f, prop7g, and numerous other similar pages of prop.
  • By moving elfzeus12 you've left out elfzeus8, elfzeus9, and elfzeus10.
  • By moving elfthrush8d you've left out elfthrush7, elfthrush9, elfthrush10, and elfthrush12.
  • Etc.

Well then, let us change the rest of these pages to plain English names.
---VectorGraphics (talk) 16:20, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
Well first, you didn't address my point at all. Second, you just suggested to me you had no clear logic of choosing which files to move, and were only moving whatever you ran into. Based on that, how do you find all the pages and make sure the names you come up with are correct? For one specific case, you moved elfthrush8d to Thrush 8-note elf D, which makes no sense cuz the 8d in elfthrush8d refers to the 8d val. FloraC (talk) 18:02, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
Well, that highlights exactly the problem: it's not intuitively clear what these page titles mean, and it would be improved by moving the pages to titles that are in plain English. Even if we must have the constraint that they are filenames, again, it's not 1990, filenames can have spaces and punctuation in them. ---VectorGraphics (talk) 20:34, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
How do you rename them and still make them filenames shipped by Scala? FloraC (talk) 21:16, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
You don't, because they're no longer in Scala. The "Scala" phase of these filenames' lifecycle is over once they've been created. Also, I don't think people use Scala, like, at all, now that Scale Workshop exists ---VectorGraphics (talk) 00:46, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
"Also, I don't think people use Scala, like, at all, now that Scale Workshop exists" idk how often Scala itself is used but .scl files at least are still very widespread CompactStar (talk) 01:08, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
I don't see a good reason why the title of the articles in xenwiki have to be the same as the name of the scala files. The Scala file name is already inside the .scl file on the actual article, after all. Does Scala rely on xenwiki to source its tuning files? Lériendil (talk) 01:04, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
I'd rather see Scala "files" merged together when they belong to a bigger series, on a page that covers the whole series, while keeping the filenames as redirects to the appropriate section containing the file contents. Displaying the .scl source may look clunky, but after all it's mostly a list of pitches which is mostly human-readable, so it's not like it's worse than a table or any similar content we already have on the wiki. --Fredg999 (talk) 05:48, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
I second this. Lériendil (talk) 05:54, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
This! FloraC (talk) 11:02, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Idk why this discussion is being held on Vector's talk page, but I support plain English titles. You can always have the filename on the page plus a redirect. Also, the scala archive is 5000+ files, so I don't think mere inclusion in there is enough to warrant a page.

Cuz Vector was moving the pages! FloraC (talk) 11:02, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Ok, that's reasonable. If we agree they should be moved, we should indeed try to do so in a consistent way instead of moving a few ad-hoc. – Sintel🎏 (talk) 11:59, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Reverting others' work

It's very rude to revert the entirety of others' work just to re-install the portion you want. Please carefully inspect the changes from others and only edit the necessary part.

Consider this a formal warning.

Notability guidelines review

We are drafting a proposal for new notability guidelines, you can find it at User:Sintel/Notability guidelines. You can use the talk page there to let us know what you think of them, or if you have any objections.

Thank you! – Sintel🎏 (talk) 23:51, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Moving pages and adding redirects

Pls use the move page functionality of the wiki instead of manually creating a new page and making the old a redirect so that edit histories are preserved. Also, when you make a page a redirect, pls remember to remove the contents. FloraC (talk) 04:12, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

Acknowledged. -- VectorGraphics (talk) 18:51, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
