Welcome
Hi M-yac,
Thanks for your interesting contributions. Especially the FJS extension seems valuable to me (after the bad news that its inventor stopped working on it).
Best regards --Xenwolf (talk) 09:55, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Xenwolf, thanks! Let me know if you think anything I've made would be worth linking to from elsewhere in the wiki. I'm interested in sharing what I've made but don't want to overstep since I'm so new. --M-yac (talk) 21:49, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think that your FJS tool could be linked in FJS, your monzo tool in monzo and the like. I'd expect that people would appreciate additions like that. At the time this wiki was run on Wikispaces, we had a JavaScript interval (or EDO) calculator which is lost after the move to MediaWiki. The original FJS webpages provide a calculator that is not very usable (you will already know that). In short, add what you think is useful, and let's see what happens... --Xenwolf (talk) 22:48, 29 June 2021 (UTC) PS: I hope you'll forgive my tweak on your post (I am a little obsessed with formatting, since I am a programmer).
- Wow! Do you check for existing pages in your tool? https://www.yacavone.net/xen-calc/?expr=112%2F75 I thought suggesting links to this wiki when I saw the link open in Scale Workshop but it's already implemented! This is really great! So I think it could make sense to include automatic links to xen-calc in the Template:Infobox Interval. --Xenwolf (talk) 23:34, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yes, I use the MediaWiki API to check whether a page on this wiki exists for a given interval, and automatically add the link if it does. As for your second comment, I think it would be amazing to include xen-calc links in the infobox template. Would making a change to that template automatically update all the infoboxes, or would someone have to go through manually and update them? If it's the latter, I would be happy to spend some of my time doing that work, if you tell me how to do it. (BTW I just made a change that improves link readability, now you can type: https://yacavone.net/xen-calc/?q=112/75) --M-yac (talk) 20:39, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- The change you made is helpful. I now added the optional linking. This change will eventually affect all interval pages using the template. The update is being propagated by the job queue (which itself is driven also by page loads). BTW: the JavaScript EDO calculator I mentioned is seemingly the one we see now on Interval Calculator | UnTwelve (I didn't know this before I found the link in xen-calc😊). --Xenwolf (talk) 21:27, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi Matt, love your xen-calc! Just wanted to make sure you saw my comments at https://en.xen.wiki/w/Talk:Color_notation and also the issues i posted to gitlab. --TallKite (talk) 04:32, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi TallKite, I'm thrilled you like it! I'm very grateful for your comments, sorry it's taken me so long to get around to them. I've pushed changes that address some of the things you noticed, I will be working on the rest soon. I also wanted to mention that I did notice your comments on https://en.xen.wiki/w/Talk:Color_notation, I've been busy and want to make sure I take the time to give that a proper response. --M-yac (talk) 04:28, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
FJS Extensions and Quartertones
Hey, Welcome to the Wiki! I should mention that I've had issues with the FJS in terms of how it represents things like quartertones, and I think I have some ideas as to how to get at those a bit better. I'm hoping we can talk a some point- for the record a good chunk of my ideas on this matter were on the discussion page for your page on Neutral Intervals and the FJS. --Aura (talk) 16:15, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Aura, yes I would love to chat! Your work sounds interesting, and extremely relevant. I've haven't had a chance to think deeply about the topic recently, but I will let you know when I do. Would you prefer to continue the conversation in a non-public space or would you prefer to stay in these discussion pages? (I have no preference.) By the way, is the Alpharabian tuning page your work? --M-yac (talk) 04:28, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, the only non-public space I can think of to host our chat is on Discord in DM- I'm DaffodilAura218#7768 on Discord by the way. Oh, and yes, the Alpharabian tuning page is indeed my work. I still have to get things nailed down to some extent, however- I mean, I need to find terms to signify the accidentals for both the syntonic comma and the rastma that I've created with the help of others on Discord. --Aura (talk) 14:47, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
