A different way to map 12edo is the Wicki-Hayden layout which has a whole tone scale in each (slanted) horizontal row, with fifths ascending vertically and slightly right, and fourths ascending vertically and slightly left.  This is "Preset 2 — Melodic Mode" in version 1.21 of the manual (this layout does not appear in version 1.0). Note that instead of starting on the left edge with C, this layout starts on the bottom edge with D and C♯, and puts F on the left edge.
