A handful of kite guitars have been manufactured that feature partial skip fretting. One fairly common scheme for this on at the (41,2,13) Kite layout is to add a fret at the 1.5, 3.5, and 4.5 fret positions. These frets are alphabetically labeled according to a scheme that names 0.5 frets (1 step) the "a" fret, 1.5 frets (3 steps) the "b" fret, and so on such. These frets have the most utility on the lowest string, as it contains the fewest pitch redundancies and in the bottom end of the range simply omits a certain number of unavailable pitches.
