| This page on a regular temperament, temperament collection, or aspect of regular temperament theory is being revised for clarity as part of WikiProject TempClean. |
Antares is the rank-2 temperament of the 3.5.7 subgroup that tempers out 21875/19683, the amount by which, assuming tritave equivalence, 6 9/5 fall short of 7/5 or equivalently the amount by which 6 5/3 exceed 15/7. It is basically the Arcturus equivalent of mavila, and is even more inaccurate than mavila. It falls into exotemperament range with the "comma" it tempers out being a small major second (~182.8 ¢). 9/5 is extremely sharp and becomes a neutral seventh, and 7/5 is mapped to a supermajor third!
Etymology
This temperament is named after the star Antares, following a series of nonoctave temperaments that are named after stars.
