It was named by Praveen Venkataramana and Tristan Bay in 2024. The name was chosen arbitrarily, but a mildly interesting fact is that if A=1, B=2, ... up to Z=26, "ChatGPT" adds up to 75, which is also the sum of the absolute values of the monzo entries of the chatgptsma (51 + 13 + 1 + 10). The name has received a considerable amount of negative feedback in the xenharmonic community, which may lead to an eventual name change in the future.
It was originally named chatgptsma (and its associated temperament, chatgptsmic) by Praveen Venkataramana and Tristan Bay in 2024 as a joke. Following a significant amount of negative reception from other members of the xenharmonic/microtonal community about this name, a vote was held to change the name of the comma to one of several others or to keep it the same. The name "technologisma" won this vote.
