:: Was there anything you wanted to address by the addition of a Theory section, which I suppose was modeled after the edo pages? It will imply changes to many temperament articles if we make it to the layout guide so I'd like to be sure about it. ::: I think some other temperament pages have similar "theory" sections - e.g. Slendric. Originally in the case of Orwell it was a way to move the comma information out of the intro and into a place where it generally belongs on EDO pages. However I generally think such things are a good idea to have even if in many temperaments, the interval chain might be the only thing in that section. It invites others to discuss potentially practical and specific theory more. --Lériendil (talk) 15:44, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

So I created Xenharmonic Wiki: Temperament page style guide just now. Feel free to review, revise, or expand on it as you see fit. FloraC (talk) 15:29, 24 September 2025 (UTC)

From Godtone
TY sincerely for helping with the diaschismic-kleismic equivalence continuum, I couldn't have done it without you. I hope you like the final form of the page; I've tried to make it absolutely as simultaneously elegant, detailed and comprehensive as I know how to. It's nice that basically every temperament lies somewhere at a simple (half-integer) place on one of the two main continuums; the main exception is the 34 & 142 temperament, which is truly fractional. What do you think about adding half-integer points to the main table too? Almost everything corresponds to a notable temperament, but maybe it makes the main table too long? --Godtone (talk) 01:15, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hmm... actually, every temperament lies at a half-integer point! 34 & 142 is at 4.5 on the first continuum. That means we have the option of getting rid of the fractional temperaments section! Though it might still be useful to keep to see what temperaments are uniquely fractional w.r.t. both continua. What do you think (if you have a preference)? --Godtone (talk) 01:32, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- I think having half-integer temperaments is probably useful, though Fumica likely has other opinions. Lériendil (talk) 01:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Please crosspost this to Beyond the Xenverse's Earth#10 channel: https://en.xen.wiki/w/User:2%5E67-1/Earth10_scratchpad. Thanks! Also please crosspost any replies to my talk page. 2^67-1 (talk) 03:53, 4 February 2025 (UTC)
Standard number of columns for the harmonics table
I figured we settled at 9 columns × 2 tables for usual edo articles last time. Shall we reset this to 11 now? I'd say in advance that I'm fine with that, just think the number of columns of the two tables should be equal if not under very special conditions. FloraC (talk) 11:22, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- The default as given by the template is 11 columns. I think this is very reasonable because it gets us to the 31-limit for the table of primes and the 23-limit for the table of odds, and both are good cutoff points. I don't really see why we should compress this number in the case where edo pages have two tables. (For edt pages there's a bit of a separate convention where there's a 9-column prime harmonic table that goes up to 23, followed by a table of odds after 23.) --Lériendil (talk) 16:54, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
Temperament article layout
I see that in Orwell, you put the Interval chain and Chords and harmony sections under a new Theory section. I wonder if it's time to create a layout guide for temperament articles akin to Xenharmonic Wiki: MOS page style guide for mos scales. FloraC (talk) 11:22, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- I do think that it's worth creating something like that, combining elements from various high-quality temperament pages (Orwell, Slendric, Rodan, Kleismic, Magic, etc.) into a single template. I don't think any one temperament page has all of these elements. --Lériendil (talk) 16:51, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- I think some other temperament pages have similar "theory" sections - e.g. Slendric. Originally in the case of Orwell it was a way to move the comma information out of the intro and into a place where it generally belongs on EDO pages. However I generally think such things are a good idea to have even if in many temperaments, the interval chain might be the only thing in that section.
