The woodpecker octad, an essentially tempered chord, is the 1–11/10–6/5–13/10–10/7–11/7–12/7–13/7 chord, tempered in the woodpecker ({66/65, 121/120, 126/125}) temperament, which makes the steps of the scale 11/10, 11/10, 11/10, 11/10, 11/10, 11/10, 11/10, 14/13. Another way of viewing the woodpecker octad is that it is the woodpecker tempering of two starling tetrads separated by a neutral second which represents 11/10, 12/11 and 13/12 simultaneously.

Linear temperaments with woodpecker octad include lupercalia, migration, nusecond and opossum.
