Below is a complete listing of all 223 11-limit rank-three temperaments with l-infinity complexity less than 3.5 and TE badness less than 0.001, obtained by the wedgie method. The TE error is multiplied by 1200 so that it can be thought of as cents, and the badness is multiplied by 100000. L-infinity complexity is defined as the maximum of the absolute values of the weighted wedgies. The temperaments are ordered by increasing l-infinity complexity, with ties broken by TE complexity. Some "Junk" temperaments of very low complexity are listed below the main list, which is ordered by increasing complexity. Because it's only a little bit beyond the cutoff, a bonus temperament is appended to the bottom of the list.

Temperament list

THIS LIST IS SORTABLE, so you can sort by name or by pergen, and look up a specific temperament. Rules for choosing comma sets: prime limit strictly ascends, torsion is not allowed, exclude primes for downward inheritances, and double-odd-limit is minimized.

  • Color name column: the method for choosing commas is described here: Color Notation/Temperament names.
  • Pergen column: P stands for period, G1 and G2 stand for the generators.
  • N stands for notation. The notation for the 5/4, 7/4 and 11/8 intervals are listed. 2/1 is always a P8 and 3/2 is always a P5.
  • Commas column: ratios are grouped by prime limit with actual commas (","), and sorted within prime-limit by double odd limit.
  • Cm = Complexity = corresponds roughly to the odd limit of the commas
  • Err = Error = corresponds roughly to the cents discrepancy from JI
  • Bad = Badness = a combination of complexity and error

The final column is the wedgie, made invisible to make the table fit on the screen well. Eventually this column will be deleted.

Many temperaments list three commas. The comma not used in the color name is in parentheses. This comma usually came from the original page, which listed only the two lowest-odd-limit commas. It's listed here just as some extra info for the reader. If this comma is a lower odd limit, but was excluded to avoid torsion, it is bolded.

"is descending" comments need to be checked against the actual best tunings.

"+" commas: ya & (ya)za + la or ya & (ya)la + za or za & (za)la + ya
