High priority cleanup

This page is going to be read by a lot of people coming here to learn about 31edo (the most popular alternative EDO!)

So I feel like it should have more information to guide beginners as to what everything means.

Other suggestions:

  • Add 31edo steps to everything.
  • Remove the 'Complexity in Temperaments' column entirely.

Suggested rewriting

Standard Triads JI Ratios 31edo steps Intervals Notation
Major 1/1 – 5/4 – 3/2 0, 10, 18 P1 M3 P5 I
Minor 1/1 – 6/5 – 3/2 0, 8, 18 P1 m3 P5 Im

etc.

I wouldn't entirely remove the complexity in temperaments column **from the wiki**, but from the current tables, for sure yes. I would instead suggest creating a separate set of tables for complexity of chords in regular temperaments, and the main motivation is that different temperaments often suggest different keyboard mappings, and complexity usually shows how easy or hard it can be to play a chord on a given keyboard mapping, because of how far away the keys can be. If I understand correctly that these measures of complexity are actually independent of 31edo, then we might want to split this off to its own page. We'll lose the convenience of only having the temperaments supported by 31edo, and if it turns out to be a significant issue, we can work that out later (I'm sure that's something someone would want to automate through a module). --Fredg999 (talk) 04:25, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
It should be independent of 31edo, though I'm not sure how it is calculated at all. – Sintel🎏 (talk) 10:14, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
