Etymology

Do we have an original source for John Pierce's reasoning in the coinage of "tritave"? I ask because "octo-" is not technically a prefix in the word "octave"; that would suggest that "-ave" is a root or a suffix. The reality is that "octave" comes from the Latin for "eighth", which is "octava". So the coinage of "tritave" is pretty sloppy, because it kept some of the letters that mean "eighth" around and just replaced some of them with the letters meaning "three". Not that I'm suggesting there's any hope of rallying the community around a different, better term at this point. But if we're going to have an etymology section for it, I want to make sure it's accurate (that is, in this case, I want to know if this was John Pierce's mistake). --Cmloegcmluin (talk) 19:52, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

You're right. I've complained about why I don't like the term. FloraC (talk) 21:15, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
