2025/2024, the cupcake comma or cupcakesma is a 23-limit superparticular comma of 0.8551 cents. It is the amount by which a stack consisting of 9/8, 15/11 and 30/23 exceeds an octave, and forms the difference between 45/44 and 46/45. Tempering it out in the 2.3.5.11.23 subgroup results in the cupcake temperament. Tempering it out in the full 23-limit it results in the cupcakesmic temperament, which enables the cupcakesmic chords.
Etymology
The names cupcake comma and cupcakesma refer to the connection between this comma and 45/44 (also known as the cake comma).
It was formerly fokkerisma by Xenllium in 2023, after Adriaan Daniël Fokker, a Dutch physicist and musician. Fokker led a revival of interest in 31-tone equal temperament (31edo), and invented the Fokker organ, a 31-tone equal-tempered organ. Rational intervals 45/44 and 46/45 were mapped to 1/31 of an octave (38.71¢, halfway between both ratios) in some EDOs of the 31n-edo family (such as 31edo and 217edo). This name was deemed to be confusable Fokker's comma (otherwise known as semicomma, 2109375/2097152, 10.06¢), so a poll was held on Talk:2025/2024 to rename the comma. The names cupcake comma and cupcakesma ended up winning.
