There's a scale in 17ET which sounds similar to the 7 tone diatonic scale in 12ET, and can feel quite familiar on a guitar. With this in mind, improvising in 17ET can be very intuitive.
Use the same step sizes: L L s L L L s, where L is 3 tones, and s is 1 tone.
If you tune your guitar to the standard fourths, it looks like this:
