A '''regular temperament''' is, simply put, a JI interpretation of a scale or scales that are not JI. In other words, a temperament is an attempt to have certain intervals and chords in such a scale approximate JI intervals and chords. The closer a scale adheres to the optimal tuning of a temperament, and the less mistuning a temperament requires, the more believable a temperament interpretation is.
