Etymology

The word megabyte for this comma was suggested by Xenllium in 2023 to refer to the numerator 1048576 (2²⁰) but it was changed due to it having nothing to do with bytes or with the kilobyte comma to the "mebisma" based on "mebi-" being the SI prefix for 2²⁰ = 1024² and being a shorter name.
