Root of a chord

I don't know about this "melodic root" thing, surely it is not the same as a tonic. This page should just be about chord roots instead, which is what "root" refers to in music. – Sintel🎏 (talk) 09:58, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

Agreed, the use of the term "melodic root" for the tonic is misleading. A tonic is a tonic, while a chord root is a chord root. --Aura (talk) 13:30, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

I have seen other pages linking to this one which use "root" to mean "tonic" for a scale so that has to be mentioned on this page somewhere. --BudjarnLambeth (talk) 23:48, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
