Meaning of "woo"

Is "woo" short for "w/o octaves" (i.e. without a perfect 2/1)? If not, what is its etymology?

I believe it refers to the beating properties. My best guess at etymology is that it's supposed to be mimetic of beating ("woo-woo").
(It should be obvious that I think this is kind of ridiculous.)

In that case, would a reinterpretation of "woo" as an acronym for "without octaves" be reasonable? - VectorGraphics (talk) 22:46, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
Maybe... I tried looking for discussions online but nothing came up.
Tbh I'd rather ditch the term but it does come up in a suprising number of scales on the wiki so I'd like to figure out what exactly it means. – Sintel🎏 (talk) 22:53, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
