A metascale [idiosyncratic term ] is any scale which is created as the result of some interaction between two or more original scales. Some families of metascales include:
- Compound scales
- Kartvelian scales
- MOS cradles
- MOS muddles
- Polysystemic scales / Polymicrotonal scales
- Scales occurring within temperaments generated by cross-domain temperament merging
- Scale products and scale powers
- Semi-just intonation
- Translated scales
- The set of notes used in a Neely-intonalist [idiosyncratic term ] piece of music, if it were to be treated as a scale
