Zarlino, also known as Ptolemy's intense diatonic scale, is a heptatonic 5-limit JI scale. Its abstract scale pattern is known as nicetone, with step signature 3L 2M 2s. This pattern is a variety of diatonic, distinct from the mos pattern 5L 2s officially called diatonic and found as such in fifth-generated tunings.
