::: Just roughly. To my eyes the current design works okay, and if it's to be improved, I'm not fond of the colored background against the text. Anyway, I'll try making a template for this. I see [https://en.xen.wiki/index.php?title=User%3AFloraC%2FSandbox&type=revision&diff=61122&oldid=61009 your point]. I know that the "[[warts]]" notation is a shorthand for [[val]]s. I think we should branch a [[Template:Vals]] for that. There are places where we already (and will further) use EDOs. In temperament properties we should switch from EDOs to Vals and at the same time prepare EDO pages to mitigate confusion. Until now there is (to my knowledge) no EDO page with a "Vals" section. The page [[val]] itself is also not ready to "catch" an in-going link that should be descriptive for an enumeration of EDOs/vals. --[[User:Xenwolf|Xenwolf]] ([[User talk:Xenwolf|talk]]) 07:52, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
: Now I see that I already planned to change [[Template:Primes in edo]] accordingly: see [[User:Xenwolf/Fifthspan#Separate mod steps]] (second table) with the linked "[[patent val]]". If EDOs with notable non-patent vals will ''develop'' a section about that fact and if on, the other hand, also EDO pages will start with the prime iontervals table (I see a tendency toward this), we will see the relation between EDOs, vals and temperaments optimally represented in the wiki. --[[User:Xenwolf|Xenwolf]] ([[User talk:Xenwolf|talk]]) 08:09, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
:: So new template for sure, but where will it be linked to? [[User:FloraC|FloraC]] ([[User talk:FloraC|talk]]) 08:48, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
::: Maybe in a way like this: <code><nowiki>[[Val|Vals]]: [[24edo#Vals|24p]], [[135edo#Vals|135p]], [[159edo|159]], [[183edo|183]], </nowiki></code> etc.? <br> Or maybe better with <code><nowiki>[[Val|EDO vals]]:</nowiki></code> before the list? <br> However, it seems to me that the val article we want to link to doesn't really welcome newbies, this is especially true for the "defining" section: <br>''A val is a <u>map</u>? <u>representing</u>(?) how to (<u>view</u> the intervals)? in a (<u>single</u>(?) <u>chain</u>)? of <u>generators</u>? as the <u>tempered</u>? versions of intervals in <u>just intonation</u>(?)'' <br> ...I tried to give an impression of the known-to-unknown ratio in the first sentence. This is what I hate about the writing style of mathematicians: you are given the impression that you have to know all the parts of a concept before you can understand any one of them. <br> So there is still something to do. --[[User:Xenwolf|Xenwolf]] ([[User talk:Xenwolf|talk]]) 17:15, 3 February 2021 (UTC) |
