== Dead Links in Examples section ==

----
Several of the examples have links that lead to 404 pages. Should they be taken down? [[User:Awelotta|Awelotta]] ([[User talk:Awelotta|talk]]) 20:56, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

: As I found out recently some pages can be found on archive.org by URL, normally it also helps to google for the titles. This of course makes more work. The easiest and less destructive way is to mark them by adding <code><nowiki>{{dead link}}</nowiki></code> behind dead links you encounter. <br> Best regards --[[User:Xenwolf|Xenwolf]] ([[User talk:Xenwolf|talk]]) 10:02, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
== Mushtone ==
:: I tried my best in the Music section. --[[User:Xenwolf|Xenwolf]] ([[User talk:Xenwolf|talk]]) 10:17, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
I propose the name mushtone for the 2.3.7.17 temperament tempering out 459:448. (26edo and 33edo both do this). It's flatter than flattone (although the two merge into one in 26edo) and produces "mushy" neutral-sounding major and minor thirds. Also, there's a street in my hometown called Mushtown Road. If both 289:288 and 85:84 are also tempered out (which 26edo does), then mushtone merges with flattone and injera.

== Millioctaves? ==
I think it just clutters things up to also list millioctaves, which are very similar to cents. If you insist on giving another measure, why not something like the mina?

Hi Gene Ward,

what is the mina?

I think the listing of pith sizes are not very useful, but cent values are 12edo-oriented and therefore worse than millioctaves. In case of absolute sizes of commas, millioctaves will be more neutral, aren't they? Let's have a look - I'm not the one who will replace all cent values by millioctave values now. I think the millioctave should be known at least as an alternative to cent.

In case of the edo definition, I think millioctave value should be added to the cent value.

BTW: the millioctave is no so odd to all people familiar with the metric system, isn't it?

I don't think millioctaves are more neutral or that there is some magical advantage in not using something divisible by 12. But to me, the bottom line is that cents are what people actually use. I wouldn't suggest using furlongs as a unit of length unless you were racing horses, and I don't see much point in switching to a system not in general use except for specialized uses, such as flus for working with 12-note circulating temperaments, or midi tuning units when working with midi.

I'm not getting a positive response to millioctaves from the tuing list. Here's what Mike Battaglia had to say:

Ok, thanks for the reply. I think millioctave values could be mentioned on several points - maybe at the "definition" section of an edo page -, but. And wide-spread conventions are a really strong argument.

The last thing the tuning community needs, IMVHO, is another unit of measure to serve as a competing standard.  It is already difficult enough for people to learn to deal with cents (ever try explaining them to a non-microtonalist?), and adding an extra column of numbers to each EDO page is not going to make anything any "clearer".  One logarithmic unit of pitch-distance measurement is as good as the next, and they're all going to be "biased" to something.  Millioctaves is biased to 10-EDO instead of 12-EDO, what does that help?

: I agree, criticizing cents because they're biased to 12edo is like criticizing decimal because it's biased to the amount of fingers. [[User:PiotrGrochowski|PiotrGrochowski]] ([[User talk:PiotrGrochowski|talk]]) 10:40, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
