The Lumatone keyboard has keys which are regular hexagons. This is nice and symmetrical but not great for the ergonomics of playing chords - we want the keys to be longer in the vertical direction.

We can modify the shape a little without changing the topology of the keys (which ones are "neighbors" that share an edge), but to make the shape significantly longer and narrower we have to change the topology.

In the standard layout, C has the neighbors: D and Bb, C# and Cb, and Db and B.

If instead we make C neighbors of Dbb and B# (so that C and D are no longer neighbors - they're too skinny to touch each other), we get these:

And if we go one further, so now B and Db are no longer neighbors of C but Bx and Dbbb are, we get these:
