Fretless saxophone

Description

The fretless saxophone (more properly, keyless saxophone, also known as Glissotar) is a single-reed woodwind instrument that has one long slit instead of finger holes. The slot is covered with a flexible strip that tends to lift away from the slot, but can be pressed into the slot with the player's fingers. Alternatively, the strip can be quickly detached from the holder at its far end and lifted or pressed into the slot to uncover higher parts of the slot. As such, the fretless saxophone is an instrument of continuously variable pitch, except for the pitch difference corresponding to the short distance between the end of the slot and the end of the instrument tube.
