It is the difference between a stack of eight 6/5 minor thirds and 43/10, the latter being two octaves plus 43/40, a 43-limit minor second. While the name is constructed to evoke the name of a Greek philosopher, it is actually composed of dimi, from diminished chord, which is built by stacking minor thirds; and genes, from Partch's Genesis scale, which has 43 tones in an octave.
