1-5-9-15 hexany

A 5-limit Hexany. This creates a scale of 1 9/8 3/2 27/16 9/5 15/8 2/1, with steps of 9/8 4/3 9/8 16/15 25/24 16/15. Initially, this may seem not particularly useful due to its lopsidedness, but looking closer, the 3/2 gives you a perfect fifth above it to root it, plus a choice of sus2, minor third, major third or sus4 chord, making it the obvious centre of this scale, while the 1/1 and 9/8 also have perfect fifths above them, but lack the same degree of other harmonic resources. This means it is a particularly strong candidate for building dekanies with, as in many cases, the extra four notes will fill in the large gap, give the subdominant and dominant chords useful thirds and you can be sure there is always at least one familiar 5-limit major chord to give you a solid place to resolve your music.
