; What was your path to discovering alternate tunings?
: As a teenager, I learned both pedal steel guitar and sitar.  I was surprised at how the tunings of both differed with what I had learned about standard guitar and piano in years prior.  There must have been some reason why different approaches were taken, so I studied those reasons as much as I could at the time, which led me to question the premise of 12 equally spaced notes on a keyboard.  Probably there was another way that could be just as good.

: Right now, I'm working on building my own stick tampura and converting an electric guitar into something like a sitar/guitar, but with more sitar influence than the traditional Coral Sitar.  I've also been playing around with adaptive JI and higher EDO's where subsets can be taken and adapted, as well as my usual guitar music.

: My primary rig is two 19-edo guitars, a 19-edo bass, one 12-edo guitar with 24-edo fretlets, and a fretless guitar.  I have a bunch of homemade instruments capable of other tunings, but nothing I'd take on the road.

** BZ: "Any instrument you play normally otherwise can be converted, if you have enough patience.  Guitars and basses can be refretted, synths can be rekeyed, et cetera.  Anything like a lyre or small harp or kalimba is easy enough for beginners.  If you want to make a flute, just grab a drill and pull up flutomat.  If you want to refret your guitar, pull up fretfind 2d and print out a PDF to use as a template.  With all of the resources available, it's actually pretty easy to modify almost any instrument."

* ''Any good microtonal anecdotes?''

** BZ: "I played at a gig a few years ago with my 19-edo band.  The band going on after us didn't bring any guitars and wanted to borrow my 19-edo strat.  The guy didn't notice anything odd about it until he went to strum a D major chord...  Luckily someone else at the show had an old guitar in their car that the guy could borrow."
