Rules of Conduct for the xen wiki

Hi there. I'm not sure how best to reach the admins on this wiki, but this seemed like an alright approach.

I notice that our wiki appears to lack rules of conduct. Having rules is good and standard practice to help maintain order, safety, happiness, etc. I'm aware that there have been some difficult to moderate conflicts on the wiki in the past, so having rules would protect everyone and make the jobs of admins here easier too.

I see that earlier this year Wikipedia introduced a "Universal Code of Conduct" (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct), so we could simply point to that ourselves if people are amenable to it.

Otherwise we could draw inspiration from rules of conduct on existing Xenharmonic-related social media groups, like on Facebook and Discord. Or just hash some out ourselves here. I'm just posting this here now to gauge interest level and hopefully kick off the conversation. --Cmloegcmluin (talk) 17:14, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

To be honest, I'm more amenable to seeing rules akin to those of Discord. --Aura (talk) 00:36, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for sharing your opinion, Aura. That would work fine for me, too.
I'll share the Discord's rules here for reference, for the benefit of others who might not have easy access to them:
"""
Basic rules
1. Be nice! Respect each other, argue in good faith, etc. Do not harass or bully others.
2. The XA discord is an inclusive space in which everyone should feel welcome. That means no bigotry: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.
3. No spam (includes excessive pinging, self-promotion outside relevant channels, and mass DM-ing).
4. Keep things SFW. This rule applies to text, images, etc. Borderline material should be spoilered with a warning.
5. Be on-topic. Content unrelated to music should be in off-topic. This includes politics.
6. Don't bring up a controversial topic just to pick a fight.
7. Don’t incite violence against any people or property.
8. Rules 1, 2, 6 and 7 also apply in DMs to other server members.
Please contact one of the mods if someone is breaking these rules or is making you otherwise uncomfortable.
A post by a moderator beginning with “[Mod voice]” indicates speaking in an official moderator capacity. It does not necessarily mean that members are receiving disciplinary action.
"""
These would need to be adapted somewhat to fit the wiki better. --Cmloegcmluin (talk) 02:28, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
I think our code of conduct should be concise, seeing as our community isn't as large as MediaWiki itself, and we don't want to discourage people from reading it altogether. From that perspective, neither MediaWiki's Universal Code of Conduct or the XA Discord's rules could be used directly, but we could take inspiration from both of them.
In particular, I think we could do a "homemade summary" of MediaWiki's Code of Conduct, since most points are relevant, although maybe there are a few that could be skipped because they do not apply as much, such as mentorship and coaching (unless we want to establish such a system). That would allow us to link to the original text as a reference for moderators and users who need to know in more detail what a specific rule entails. Fredg999 (talk) 02:46, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
Concision is good, yes.
Fredg999, I'm not seeing the stuff about mentorship and coaching. Is this not the MediaWiki Code of Conduct you're referring to? https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Code_of_Conduct

Oops, I meant Wikimedia, not MediaWiki. In Wikimedia's Universal Code of Conduct (see your link above), there is a mention of "Mentorship and coaching", that is what I was referring to. --Fredg999 (talk) 05:59, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
