Naming etc.

Hi Fredg999,
you might already know this, but I want to assure you: you are free to add as many pages of any name to your part of the user namespace. To get an overview of all your sub pages on you user page, you can add {{Special:Prefixindex|prefix={{FULLPAGENAME}}/|hideredirects=1|stripprefix=1}} to it, FULLPAGENAME will then be replaced by User:Fredg999/. Finally a word about the headings: Like in Wikipedia, headings in pages of the main namespace should be from h2 to h6 (however, the levels 5 and 6 don't look good), h1 should be avoided. Of course in your user space you are free to do basically whatever you want. --Xenwolf (talk) 09:54, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Sidebar

Hi Fredg999, I think the sidebar should be reduced to the most important links. It is on every page and the need to scroll should be minimal (if not eliminated). You should also try different skins to see where SERACH and LANGUAGES can be placed, for example. I suggest you take a closer look at Timeless - I switched to it from Vector (the default), and I don't plan to switch back. Most important about Timeless is that the search bar is wider and stays at the top of every page (i.e., you can't scroll it out of the screen). --Xenwolf (talk) 09:09, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

I guess I've been a bit conservative in my suggestions. I think I also understand why previous admins could have wanted to have more quick links, so I tried aiming for a compromise. I also find it annoying when I have to scroll to reach the toolbox, for example, so I'd be glad to have just a small Overview section, or even a single Overview/Contents link, which would probably work just as well in place of the current Practice/Theory sections. That would imply creating one or more new overview pages, but I think it would be useful to have those anyway.
I had already looked at other skins, but I believe the sidebar configuration should be adequate for all skins. If the position of LANGUAGES matters in one skin but not others, then maybe the alternative position of LANGUAGES is justified, but so far it looks like the position of LANGUAGES near the top doesn't affect any of the skins, unless I'm having a cache issue or something like that maybe. --Fredg999 (talk) 15:19, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
