Ice tonality refers to a tonal system which is set up by using mohajira[7] as the fundamental scale. Ice tonality is a method of describing a system which tonally uses mohajira as the diatonic scale rather than arabic maqam which follow a much different approach. While typically it refers to 24 edo it can also be found in other equal temperaments. "Iced" is a way to refer to a neutral interval to describe the quality it has. Unlike "neutral", iced sounds much less ambiguous and gives the impression that it has a distinct quality rather than just sticking it between major and minor as neutral intervals sound like neither major or minor but in fact have a sound described as "Iced". Therefore, Mohajira[7] can be referred to the "Iced Diatonic Scale" and it's mode's are as follows: || Iced Major (Neutral Scale) || C D Ed F G Ad Bd C || M2 N3 P4 P5 N6 N7 || || Iced Locrian || D Ed F G Ad Bd C D || N2 m3 P4 sb5 N6 m7 || || Iced Fridgian (Iced Minor) || Ed F G Ad Bd C D Ed || N2 N3 P4 P5 N6 N7 || || Iced Lydian || F G Ad Bd C D Ed F || M2 N3 S4 P5 M6 N7 || || Iced Mixolydian || G Ad Bd C D Ed F G || N2 N3 P4 P5 N6 m7 || || Iced Dark Lydian (Iced Coffee) || Ad Bd C D Ed F G Ad || M2 N3 S4 P5 m6 N7 || || Iced Blizzard || Bd C D Ed F G Ad Bd || N2 N3 P4 P5 N6 m7 || Strangely, the mode names do not match the typical order of western mode names due to the odd intervalic nature of mohajira temperament. =Iceface Tuning= When a mode the iced diatonic scale is superimposed with the normal diatonic scale, it results in a tuning called "Iceface". The term was coined by Hidekazu Wakabayashi by tuning each black note on the piano up 50 cents. The result is an array of Iced modes along with the diatonic scale at the same time. "Iceface" implies that there is simply an essense of the iced modes avaliable within range of the normal diatonic scale. Take for example, C major. IF we tune C#, D#, F#, G#, and A# up 50 cents we would get a scale of C Dd D Ed E F Gd G Ad A Bd B C. By looking at the above chart, it's quite apparent that the Iced Diatonic scale on C as well as other Modmos are avaliable throughout this scale. =see also= * [[Iceface Tuning]]
