This template starts on C, but most edo pages start on D. I believe this was chosen because D is in the middle of the circle of fifths (F-C-G-D-A-E-B), leading to the most symmetrical configuration. See also Ups and downs notation#Examples: EDOs 12-24. I suggest changing the starting note to D for this reason. --Fredg999 (talk) 02:18, 13 June 2023 (UTC) | This template starts on C, but most edo pages start on D. == Too many arrows ==
Very nice to see ups and downs note names being automated! But these note names aren't ideal. For example 57edo runs:
D ^D/vvEbb ^^D/vEbb D#/Ebb...
In general, I think the number of arrows should be minimized. Thus ^^D should be vD# and ^^D# should be vDx.
The note names for 57b-edo have up to 9 arrows, but only 5 are needed. The names should run:
D ^D/Eb ^^D/^Eb ^3D/^^Eb ^4D/^3Eb ^5D/^4Eb v4D#/v5E v3D#/v4E vvD#/v3E vD#/vvE D#/vE E
