Help:Other languages
The English language Xenharmonic Wiki is the main instance of the Xenharmonic Wiki (i.e. xen.wiki redirects to en.xen.wiki).
Many pages on this wiki are available in other languages. These pages are accessed via the interlanguage links or interwiki links, usually visible on the bottom left of a page (using the default skin). Links to all the different language versions for that page will be displayed. A lack of interlanguage links indicates that there is no equivalent page in any other language.
Other language versions are usually written independently rather than being a translation. The interlanguage links may on occasion lead to non-existent pages.
The following explains how to contribute depending on the language.
Languages with a dedicated subdomain
The Xenharmonic Wiki currently has subdomains for the following three other languages:
- German (de.xen.wiki)
- Spanish (es.xen.wiki)
- Japanese (ja.xen.wiki)
These are all running on different instances of MediaWiki. As such, user accounts only work on the instance for which it was created. If you want to contribute in any of these languages, request an account by going to the corresponding subdomain and use the "Request account" link available in the top-right corner of any page.
Languages without a dedicated subdomain
For any other language other than those enumerated above, you can create pages directly on the English wiki.
- Disambiguate the page title if it conflicts with an English page title: e.g. Interval (ro).
- Place Template:Foreign language at the top of the page (see the template documentation for usage notes).
- Make sure to follow the wiki's policies and guidelines.
All pages in a foreign language currently hosted on the English wiki can be found in Category:Pages in a foreign language.
If a language has enough pages and active users to justify creating a new subdomain, a request can be made to the sysadmin. That said, each request will be treated on a case by case basis, since setting up a new subdomain is not a trivial task.
