: Interesting. Dave and I used em dashes surrounded by narrow non-breaking spaces throughout our Guide to RTT. But now that I'm looking into it again, I'm finding that it seems to be more globally common to use the open style (i.e. surrounded by spaces) with the shorter ''en'' dashes (width of an 'n'), not the wider ''em'' dashes (width of an 'm'). I do prefer the open style to the closed style (where "closed", naturally, means ''not'' surrounded by spaces), so I'll confer with Dave and see if he wants to switch us across the Guide to open en dashes. If not for the spaces around it, I don't think a template should be used for characters as simple as a dash. These are very accessible from the dropdown menu of the edit page.
