I agree to rename this comma especially because of 1024/1023. I think your names would work well to accurately describe the musical function of this comma, but they are, compared to the name being replaced, very long, and they do not end in "-isma" meaning I have to coin a second name for either the very high-rank full 41-limit temperament or the 2.5.41 subgroup temperament (I would also say that they can be mistaken for 225/224 but it already has an established name, so in practice, that is a non-issue). After a bit of thinking I came up with "qaugisma" but it's a few letters off from the name for 4375/4374, and "qaugic" sounds close to being magic (although the two can reasonably be merged, so maybe that isn't an entirely bad thing) so I think it might also be a poor name choice. | : I agree to rename this comma especially because of 1024/1023. :: The first name I suggested does end in "-isma" ("supermajor ambiharmonisma"), it slipped my mind to not make sure that the temperament names make sense for all the names I proposed though. It's a long name mainly/only because of "ambiharmonisma", from "ambiharmonic", but I suggest that this term or a shortenage of it (maybe we can get away with "ambisma"?) ideally become a standard for commas that have a power of two in the numerator or denominator so that they are the difference between a harmonic and subharmonic interval. --Godtone (talk) 19:55, 5 March 2024 (UTC) | |||
CompactStar (talk) | : I realize that qaugisma is connected to both of it's potential confused commas/temperaments (it is a high superparticular comma, and the temperament is optimally generated by a flat 5/4) but that doesn't make the name any less confusing.
