Variplaning is “a technique to quickly and easily generate chord progressions”, described by Sevish in a livestream in August 2023.

The technique is a xenharmonic generalization of moving a major chord shape up and down the white keys of a regular piano. In the diatonic setting you get major chords, minor chords and even a diminished chord without changing the overall chord shape.

The name is a portmanteau of varying and harmonic planing.
