Metascales^{[idiosyncratic term]} are any scales which are created as the result of some interaction between two or more original scales. Some families of metascales include:

• Kartvelian scales
• MOS cradles
• MOS muddles
• Polysystemic scales / Polymicrotonal scales
• Scales occurring within temperaments generated by cross-domain temperament merging
