A metascale[idiosyncratic term] is any scale which is created as the result of some interaction between two or more original scales. Some families of metascales include:

- Interleaved scales
- Kartvelian scales
- MOS cradles
- MOS muddles
- Polysystemic scales / Polymicrotonal scales
- Scales occurring within temperaments generated by cross-domain temperament merging
- Scale products and scale powers

- Wijzerplaat scales[idiosyncratic term]
- The set of notes used in a Neely-intonalist[idiosyncratic term] piece of music, if it were to be treated as a scale
