"Major" and "minor"

I removed this from the article:

Form: L L L L L L L s = Major Scale

L s L L L L L L = Minor Scale

because it doesn't make sense to me. Who defined these this way? At least in porcupine, the second one seems like a "major" scale to me, because it contains a 4:5:6 "major chord", and the first one just doesn't seem like a great mode at all, because it doesn't have a 3/2 above the tonic.
