User:Eliora/Divisor Agnostic Naming System

This is the development of what FloraC calls "Eliora's Naming System" whenever I edit in large EDOs.

I'm hoping that this "Eliora's Naming System" actually has a name and proper standardization to it.

Idea

The idea is to have a system that represents sub-EDOs as well as just intervals of an EDO.

The suggestions are as follows:

  1. Use universally accepted names on the wiki for JI intervals that are coprime to EDO. Also always use universally accepted names for the intervals in the limit in which EDO is consistent. For example, if the EDO is consistent in the 7-limit, then 7/4 no matter what the step, is to be named "harmonic seventh". Patent val 3/2 is always named "perfect fifth", as a consequence.
  2. If EDO's abundancy index is larger than 2 (or 3 if number itself is counted), always refer to divisors.
  3. If EDO is contorted, use the base sub-EDO which isn't contorted, and fill in the rest with sharps and flats. Example - 988edo will use 494edo notation on its even steps, and up/down symbols on the odd steps.
  4. If EDO has a temperament that it is very well known for, such as 84edo is known for orwell, then use that temperament for notation and naming intervals in order.

Ferris wheel notation for fractional-octave temperaments and MOSses

  1. Name notes which correspond to the generator "k-th cabin in n", where n is the amount of periods in an octave, and not the full EDO.
  2. Use ups and downs for intermediate notes, so one generator up from 7th period will be "7th Cabin^ in 21".
  3. Word "gondola" can also be used.
