Cam Taylor is a xenharmonic theorist, improviser, composer and musician from Auckland, New Zealand. Focussing mainly on extended meantones, gentle tunings and extensions of schismatic temperaments (in EDOs 31, 43, 50, 81, and 17, 29, 46, 63, 80, and 41, 53, 94 respectively) and JI, he mainly performs improvised compositions using circulating systems (either entire EDOs or JI 'detemperings' of EDOs) on hexagonal keyboards and his custom 17-tone midi keyboard. He favours the Bosanquet layout as a standard way to map fifth-generated tunings (including 12, 17, 19, 22, 26, 27, 29, 31, 33, 41, 43, 46, 50, 53, 55, 63, 80, 81, 94 EDOs) and intends to write a practical guide (as well as a theoretical overview) on the workings of Bosanquet for hexagonal keyboards, as new keyboards like the Terpstra become important tools for theoretical understanding, composition and performance of music in alternate tuning systems. He has developed a semi-standardised notation for fifth-based tunings, based on Helmholtz-Ellis and expandable depending on scale size, along with spoken nomenclature and solfege, though he now prefers to use Sagittal wherever understood, and is an advocate of George Secor's Sagispeak.
