Map

In mathematics generally, map is synonymous with "mapping" and "function". In RTT, both "map" and "mapping" have the more specific meaning of a linear map, which is a function that can be represented by a matrix, but it is common to reserve the shorter word "map" for a single row of such a matrix, such as a tuning map or ET map. In this single-row sense, a map may also be viewed as a covector, and when unqualified, is synonymous with "val" (tuning maps are usually not vals because they usually have non-integer entries).
