This page is about a type of val. For the regular temperament called breed, see Breed (temperament).

A breed is a specific type of val which defines an equal temperament.

The coinage was suggested by Paul Erlich to mirror the usage of monzo for the dual structure, i.e. both named after prominent contributors to their usage: Graham Breed and Joe Monzo, respectively.[1]
