Marin Mersenne was a French mathematician and music theorist. He is known for inventing mersenne primes, which are a big deal outside of musical tuning, but within music they define the mersenne commas. He also invented a number of musical scales and contributed to the early precursors of regular temperament theory.
The Ellis Duodene is equivalent to Mersenne’s spinet tuning #1. Marveldene is based upon it.
