The name '''antitriatonic'''{{idio}} was coined by {{u|ArrowHead294}}, as a back-formation from "diatonic" with di- being interpreted as 2 (the [[2/1|octave]]) and tri- being interpreted as 3 (the [[3/1|tritave]]). The "anti-" prefix is used in the same way that octave-equivalent [[2L 5s]] scales are called "antidiatonic", adopted from the common use of the term to refer to diatonic but with the large and small steps switched.
