I was trying to come up with explanatory text for the Squares mapping (currently the last mapping on the page), and discovered that unlike all of the other mappings, neither the Squares generator (11\31, 9/7 ~ 23/18 ~ 14/11) nor its square (22\31) appears as the relation between adjacent keys, but instead the generator is right and slightly down via a jump between adjacent keys, over to the next non-adjacent key; the cube (33\31 --> 2\31) is adjacent down and right, but that seems more of a rotated Valentine mapping.  Other adjacent key intervals are 7\31 (~7/6, rotated Myna) and 9\31 (~11/9, neutral third, as in Mohajira).  So maybe this mapping should be renamed, and maybe another mapping made for Squares (or maybe rename this one Mohajira/Myna/Squares or something)? (Rotating Valentine chops up the scale too much due to insufficient vertical space, so I wouldn't put that in the name, although if something like a hypothetical XL-size Lumatone with sufficient vertical space came out, it would work for that.)<br>

: No, it is the 3L 2s Squares Mos. That's what happens when stacking generators hits the octave and wraps around several times. Remember that the pythagorean one needs three steps to hit the generator by the time it's expanded out to the familiar 5L 2s pattern. The real problem here is that the squares mapping is neither a particularly efficient way of reaching the best intervals in 31edo or keeping octaves close to horizontal, which I why I wouldn't personally have added it to this already quite busy page. Not sure why this was removed, but preserving it here just in case it needs to be added back. (But if it is, it needs some explanatory text like the other mappings have.)  Lucius Chiaraviglio (talk) 22:22, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
:: Okay, thanks &mdash; that makes sense.  I'll put it in. Lucius Chiaraviglio (talk) 16:51, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
