This is a microtonal (48 EDO) jazz piece based on a theme I wrote for standard 12-EDO tuned piano, exploring the half-step/whole-step Octatonic scale. For the retuning I used a variant of the Octatonic scale that I hadn't seen before:

Rather than using Diminished temperament, tempering out both 36/35 and 50/49, I only tempered out 50/49. This results in a scale where the whole steps alternate between a larger ~8/7 whole step and a smaller ~10/9 whole step, in the pattern sMsLsMsL. This allows a distinction between septimal and 5-limit minor and major thirds without creating any wolf intervals. All dominant 7th chords either become harmonic 7th chords (4:5:6:7) or utonal chords with the ratios (1/9:1/7:1/6:1/5). Diminished 7th chords all become some inversion of (10:12:14:17).

This version is in 48 EDO. I also rendered this piece in 26 and 22 EDO.

The microtonal tuning allowed me to write two different variants of the first part of the bridge swapping 5-limit and septimal intervals. There's a neat little Av A Bbv commatic passing tone in an inner melodic line in the second part of the bridge in this and the 22EDO version. I think this is my favorite tuning for Octatonic Groove, but 26EDO comes close.
