Okay, after hanging out with Carl and Keenan IRL, I've decided to revise my hatchet piece on microtonality. I've retracted the generalizations and replaced them with "I" statements. Hopefully these seem less objectionable and more valid to y'all.<br />

So, think about this: Don't build a wall against microtonal "community", if some of you're microtonalists friends offers you to play with them. Play with your 12tet guitar and let them play with their chosen tuning.<br />

Actually these views are fairly common, and have been rehashed many times by authors including Brian McLaren, XJ Scott, Dan Stearns, Jacky Ligon, etc.<br />

You misinterpreted my post. The views expressed in Igs' post are common, exceedingly so, and I agree with much of them. I'm saying that I don't know many people who don't share those views to some extent. The "views" I was saying that people don't have are the naive views that Igs is railing against in his post.<br />

That is part of the reason I enjoy microtonality.<br />

When I write an awesome composition in 12-EDO, I do not take much pride in it because I knew it took me *zero* effort.<br />

On the contrary, writing a good microtonal composition is challenging, but I am always proud of the result.<br />
